How It Works

LANoi Pro is a software product that provides secure remote access and VPN like functionality over the internet. This remote access software as a product offering differs from commercial remote access software which provide service with a monthly subscription fee or service charges.

Connectivity:
LANoi Pro has been implemented for next generation Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for Peer-to-Peer connectivity. Currently the Internet is built with IPv4 addressing which allows only 4 billion unique addresses which is not sufficient to uniquely identify all the systems/devices connected to the Internet. Therefore, remote access applications using IPv4 require the middle layer of servers to uniquely identify systems over the Internet. Such drawbacks are overcome in IPv6 since it provides 340 billion, billion, billion, billion unique addresses, sufficient enough to assign addresses to all Internet connected devices including PCs, mobile phones, gaming devices and more. It makes End-to-End connectivity a reality without the need to use complex software. Even though deployment of IPv6 is in a slow phase, Windows has provided IPv6 ‘transition technologies’ which is implemented over the existing IPv4 for early adapters. Hence, LANoi Pro with IPv6 connectivity helps avoid the need for two separate applications for LAN and Internet.

Invitation File:
The Invitation file contains Digital Certificate and Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRP) name of the inviter. The file is encrypted with a password. The inviter keys in the password to decrypt the file and the client certificate inside the invitation file is used to authenticate the session for the inviter. PNRP is another Peer-to-Peer technology developed by Microsoft to resolve a name without centralized servers as opposed to commercial DNS servers requiring registration time and cost. PNRP name in the invitation is resolved to get the IPv6 address of the inviter.

IPv6 Translator:
Most of the network application is implemented to work with IPv4, so it requires contacting the application vendor to rebuild it to support IPv6 which is expensive and time consuming. LANoi Pro uses a unique translation mechanism which makes existing IPv4 applications to work transparently over IPv6.

Security:
IPv6 End-to-End connectivity also exposes the client computer directly to the Internet making it vulnerable to attacks. LANoi Pro’s in-built firewall allows only authenticated invitee users to gain access to the sessions and as a result all other connections are rejected. Therefore, it blocks malicious users from gaining access to your authenticated sessions. Authentication and validation of invitation uses SSL technology which is most widely used for secure online transactions.
